This tutorial will guide you step by step through configuring WS_FTP to send files to our generic access FTP site. To use this tutorial, you'll need to have WS_FTPLE or WS_FTP Pro downloaded and installed, and you'll need to be connected to the internet via your ISP. Private FTP accounts can be created if desired. Download WS_FTP If you don't already have a version of WS_FTP installed on your computer, a copy can downloaded at www.zdnet.com, by searching for "ws_ftp". 1. Open WS_FTPLe and create a Session Profile. Once you open WS_FTPLE, the first screen you will see is the Session Profile screen, which will look similar to this:
You'll need to enter the following settings in your Session Profile: 2. Click on the "Startup" tab above the Profile Name. The Startup screen will look like this:
Enter "incoming" in the Initial Remote Host Directory field and click Apply. 3. Click OK and the program will log you into the site. 4. Transferring Files Now that you are logged into ABCO's FTP site, the WS_FTPLE screen should look similar to this:
5. As shown above, the left window displays the directories and files on your local hard drive, and the right window displays the directories and files on ABCO's FTP site. To transfer files from one window to the other, simply click once on the file you wish to transfer, then click once on the arrow between the two windows which points in the direction that you wish to transfer the file. 6. Ending the FTP Session To disconnect from our FTP site, click on the Close or Exit buttons at the bottom of the screen. The next time you connect with WS FTP, your session profile will be saved for you. Simply select the name of the profile you created earlier, and click Connect. That's all there is to it! Below are some additional notes about using WS FTP. Tips & Suggestions 2. WS_FTPLE allows you to create new folders; We recommend creating your own folder inside the "incoming" folder to keep your files organized. 3. There is no limit on file size for FTP transfers; it is dependent on the speed of your Internet connection. There will be instances, however, where file size may make FTP impractical. Please discuss the best file transfer method with your ABCO Representative. Happy FTP'ing! |
